Kids don’t always get sick during normal working hours. We’re excited to tell you about a new, better option for pediatric care when our office isn’t open: Kids Time Pediatrics. In partnership with several other local pediatric practices, we’ve helped set up these offices to see simple pediatric problems on evenings and weekends. They’ll be staffed by genuine, board certified pediatricians.
Kids Time Pediatric centers are not designed to be "urgent care centers" or emergency rooms. They will not have x-ray facilities or extensive laboratory support. They’re meant to see ordinary, everyday pediatric problems, the same sorts of things that we see in our office, like sore throats, fevers, ear aches, and coughs.
How is Kids Time Pediatrics better than other options for after-hours care?
- They’re not urgent care centers—and we do not anticipate urgent-care style waiting times.
- They’re set up to take the same insurance plans as our office, and you will usually pay your standard office co-pay (or a very reasonable flat fee for cash-paying families.)
- Your child will be evaluated by a real pediatrician, not a nurse with limited pediatric training.
- Your own pediatricians are part of the Kids Time organization, and will help make sure that these sites provide the kind of excellent care that your children deserve.
- The doctors at the Kids Time sites will be in touch with your own pediatrician at your practice to ensure the best good continuity of care.
In a few weeks, another Kids Time Pediatric site will open in Alpharetta at 4000 Northpoint Parkway, at the corner of Old Milton Parkway. We’ll let you know the exact opening date soon.
Normal operating hours for both sites will be weekdays 6 pm-9 pm, and weekends 1 pm-7 pm. Though no appointments are necessary, you can call the central number for both sites at 404-943-1979 for additional information on hours and directions, or visit the Kids Time website at http://kidstimepeds.com/.
Developmental Study for Toddlers
We are participating in a study of toddler development with researchers at the University of Georgia. To participate, parents of children coming in for their 18- and 24-month visits will be asked to complete a short questionnaire including 20 yes/no questions. The goal of the study is to find ways to more accurately diagnose developmental problems earlier in life. We know that earlier diagnosis can lead to earlier and more-effective therapy.
Participation is optional. If you don’t want your child involved in the study, just let us know and do not complete the forms. If you do wish to participate, advantages include potentially earlier diagnosis of important issues through a series of in-depth evaluations that will be provided free-of-charge.
Prior to coming in for your child’s 18- and 24- month visit, you can print, review, and complete the study materials through this link. We can also mail the materials to you—just give us a call a week or so before your appointment. The study is only appropriate for children coming in for their 18- and 24- month well visits.
Thank You for Your Referrals
Most of our new patients find us by word-of-mouth from families in our practice. We really appreciate the referrals, and the trust you’ve placed in us. As a token of thanks, we’re happy to send you a Toys-R-Us gift card—just make sure that the new family tells us that they heard about us from you!Flu Vaccines
Flu season is closer than you think! This year, the CDC is recommending influenza immunization for everyone, all adults and children, over six months. The vaccines are safe and effective, and they become more and more effective as a higher proportion of the population gets vaccinated. The goal this year will be to get as many people vaccinated as possible to protect all of us.
The flu vaccines for this year all include last year's pandemic strain, the novel-H1N1, in addition to two other widely circulating flu strains.
We have started distributing the "mist" version of the vaccine at our offices, and hope to have the injectable version available soon. We should have enough flu vaccines at our offices to accommodate all of our patients and parents. Our goal is the best protection possible for our community. We will let you know in an email like this one when we're ready to start scheduling our "flu vaccine clinics."
The mist vaccine is only for those from 2 to 49 years of age who do NOT have any chronic lung or heart disease, and who have a normal immune system. For people older or younger than this, or who have other health problems, the injected vaccine must be used.
Many children who have not yet reached their ninth birthday will need two doses of vaccine this year to get the best protection from the flu vaccine. To help decide how many doses your child needs, use this tool
Pertussis is back
Pertussis, or whooping cough, is making a comeback in Georgia. Protect yourself and your children by making sure that they're up to date on their vaccines, and that Mom and Dad have had a pertussis booster, too. Adults can get those vaccines at county health departments, their own physicians, or at our practice (if covered by your insurance).Dr. Roy gets wet
In loving memorial of Dr. Patty and Lynn Pollack, Dr. Roy is swimming 30 miles in 30 days. That's a lot of laps! Help support his effort by visiting or joining or this Facebook group (you can follow his progress there even if you don't have a Facebook account), or by donating through the Susan G. Komen for the Cure web site. After hours care
We know it's sometimes hard to make it to our office during off hours. Kids don't always get sick during the workday, and sometimes it's difficult for families to have the time to come when we're open. Though there are other alternatives, they're not ideal - urgent care centers are designed to handle "more serious" problems, and there is often a wait; and the retail-based clinics are not staffed by people who have extensive pediatric experience or training. We want to ensure that your children receive the same level of excellent care when seen after-hours or on weekends. And we've got a great solution for you!More information coming soon!
